Ancient Spanish

Started my Spanish army…. at last ( so this is project number 5 underway hahaha ) and that's just for Impetus. All the figs are 28mm Crusader. Shields are transfers of course Veni Vidi Vici.
Some Lusitanians are on the blocks next up for these guys. That's the other thing I haven't decided on yet to go the Celtiberian track or stay on the Iberian/Lusitanian path…. hmmmm …. I'm thinking the later at the moment ( not so punchy but good fun to use ) .

  1. Great brushwork on those Spaniards!

Everyone needs multiple projects to prevent boredom.

  2. Great looking figs. I especially like the cavalry.

  3. Yeah this first batch was a little bit of an experiment when it came to the shields, I did the infantry first... but I think the rest of them I'll end up doing in the same style as the cavalry. Haven't used VVV decals for awhile and wasn't sure what would be passable…. trying not to spend too much time on them.

  5. Really lovely! Nice and bright.

I have a vision of such a Spanish army fighting against Romans in very hilly terrain, ambush on a baggage train etc. One day...

  10. Love it! Great work all around, your shieldwork and tunics are superb.

You've got the jump on me, Richard. I'd so love to do Iberians in 28mm for Impetus but watching your new project is the next best thing! I need to look at my Extra Impetus book to remember which of the units has the most impetus dice.

I so would like to paint Iberians for Impetus, but this is the next best thing.

    1. I enjoyed your Spanish project awhile ago very much Monty…..you did a great job on them….they were inspiring. Yeah I've been looking forward to this army for sometime, I've had the figs for about a year now waiting for a window to start on them…the day has finally arrived. Celtiberians have the most punch ( impetus ) and you can upgrade a few of them as well. Shall post up units as I finish them…thanks for the encouragement :-)

  11. Little rippers Tarty ol'boy, what are you washing the horses with or are you oil wiping them? The shields sans decals are a real joy to study, very clever brushwork.

    1. Cheers Dave….the horses are 50/50 I can never make my mind up what I like the most, so I do both…..hahaha typical for me. Some are vallejo wash and some are oil.
