Really nice brushwork! Your detailing of the facial features make the lead come to life. As Monty states, the horse flesh treatment is especially well done.
Thanks guys…yes finally got the scale sorted Simon after a few goes at it. Straight bronze base then a wash mix with a light dry brush to finish off. The result is quiet passable I think and reasonably quick which is why I settled on the method in the end. Cheers Richard
Another short cut Simon…. :-) One base colour all over then an ink wash with some retarder mixed in to slow the drying process. Wipe off the highlights with a knitted cotton rag ( t shirt material )….make sure you stretch it tight over the end of your finger so you don't go into the recesses. The black pointing is done by hand….some tails and manes are just dry brushed in a yellow ochre. For the time spent not a bad result I feel, it's a compromise but if you change the base colours a little more than I have ( I've just done one colour with these guys….lazy ) you can get a good mix in the one batch. Cheers Richard
Clever, I'd not heard of this one. I thought it was an oil wipe, which I've always wanted to try but haven't An ink wipe I could manage. Its such a warm color.
You could use an oil Monty ( it's where I got the idea in the first place vintage old school wargaming technique from a friend )… I find water base ink washes easier personally.. more control as well. Adding a few drops retarder or thinning medium so much more user friendly. The other thing is I use artist quality inks don't have any of the hobby stuff…they have lasted years. Richard
They look wonderful - Spanish are always on my 'to do' lists, that get planned out but never started, you know how it is... :( Can I ask if they are all Crusader figures - or have you mixed in any from A&A (as same designer?). Thanks.
Yep these are all Crusader. I picked up a job lot from a local supplier who was getting out of the range…so we did a deal. Basically this is why their all Crusader….I'm sure the A&A range is great as well ( big fan actually ), I don't have any problem mixing up ranges normally.
Wonderful to look at, Richard! Basing, shields, tunics, horseflesh, colors...all tops! I hope to see them on the field of battle soon.
